Motivation for Worship
Finally, an understanding of eschatology leads us to worship the God who is on the throne. Discussions concerning worship in our churches seem never-ending. We still talk about – and often disagree about – the style of music, the types of instruments, or the choice of songs. All the while, our times of worship are often lacklustre at best and sources of dispute at worst. Once again, our eyes are turned inwards, upon ourselves and our own comfort and well-being instead of outwards and upwards, through the curtain that is drawn back to allow us a glimpse of glory.
The throne room of heaven rings continually with the sound of worship and as God’s people here on God’s earth we join in that worship. And we do so because we know he has a plan, because we know that there are realities beyond the temporal, because we know we are called to go and to witness, because we know that final judgment is to come.
Is the corporate worship of the fellowship of which I am a part aligned with the truths of glory or more worried about the agenda of individuals?
It is perhaps fitting that we should conclude with some of the final words of Revelation,
“‘Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.’
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.” (Rev 22:12-13, 20b).
