This is a blog from Simon and Dorit Marshall who are working with European Christian Mission International. You can learn more about us on the ‘About’ page.
Svědek [svyedek] is Czech for ‘witness’ and we chose this name for our prayer and news letter when we moved to Prague in 2009. When we left there we decided that it was a name which still reflected what it is that we are and do – witness to Jesus. As he said to his disciples, “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
The blog contains bits and pieces from our time at Tilsley College , and that Simon decides to post related to ECMI and the books he is reading. It is also where you can read our latest newsletters.
Information about Simon’s schedule and links to recordings of previous sermons are available on the other pages on this blog.
Yes a good article. In many ways it gives validity to the monastic contemplative life which being largely RC made it possibly of little worth to southern Irish Brethren Christians, I suspect. The Anglicans, probably, would be more attuned to the concept. The exception, but often a rarity, would be a good old fashioned PB B of B service, with times of quiet linked by a thought, hymn or reading. We don’t have anything similar these days other than a good prayer meeting, perhaps. Most tend to be a focused shopping list, but many of the epistles itemise the need to pray for many individuals or situations. It’s all a matter of balance.
